Jugetes by Bongo-Logic

When I was in Los Angeles, California I had the privilege of working consistently with the group Bongo Logic. Working with the great flutist Artie Webb, violinist Harry Scorzo, pianist Joe Rotundi, percussionist Michito Sanchez, bassist Guillermo Guzman, and leader Brett Golin, would change my mindset for life about the music I wanted to create. They were a great influence on me.

Digital Marketing

What was your original goal for this course?

When I originally worked on my timeline, I looked at this course and deducted that I needed to know more in three areas before moving forward.

1.    Who can I contact for digital marketing ?

2.    What were the digital media outlets available?

3.    Have a better understanding of the process of digital marketing and it’s segments.

How was this goal met by the course?

The goal was definitely met and more. I realized that the website is the hub of the business and the other parts of marketing support the website. I had heard so many times throughout the years that a website isn’t that important, but after spending a few years marketing myself as a musician, and taking this course, I learned how the pieces of the puzzle work together and ultimately how important a website is.

What did you learn from this course?

There are so many things I could write about as to what I’m walking away with from this course. The interaction between social media and one’s website. The intertwining between traditional and digital marketing strategies. The understanding of analytics and how important they are. A greater understanding of SEO’s, keywords, content, color, consistency, font, bounce rate, focus groups, conversion, call-to-action, usability, simplicity, accessibility, search engine spiders, long tails, and e-commerce

How will you apply the material learned either personally or professionally?

The plan is to look at the business and re-evaluate the way we use social media and the other media channels. Specifically to look at how they can enhance each other ultimately driving perspective clients/customers to our website. The goal would be to develop campaigns using the specialty of each form of media to establish a greater presence for the brand.

Digital Marketing

When building a business, one must use the right strategies to attract perspective clients or customers to buy ones products. Many years ago one would give a person a business card and a hand-shake and their business was completed. Repeat business was a given and loyalties were created as a result. Individuals and companies did business together through the life span of their businesses as long as each party acted in good faith.

In with the age of coding and megapixels, a new form of reaching ones customers was created. It provided a vehicle for individuals to seek what they wanted no matter where it existed on the planet. Businesses were now reaching to like-minded businesses to better enhance their capabilities to reach their customers. The merging of companies became a strategy used to help businesses now become a super-power. While the mom and pop  store withered away or jumped into the world of Digital Marketing. The channels of marketing products have come a long way. The following are examples of marketing channels I will be using to establish a connection with possible customer/clients.

Digital Marketing Channel
Two questions I wanted to address on my timeline for this course were as follows:
·       Who can I contact for digital marketing ?
·       What were the digital media outlets available?
After taking this course I decided to use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. These social media outlets will all support the business website which will be considered the hub of the marketing segment. Each will provide the ability to communicate the brand with the masses. Each has its special nitch to reach out to specific age categories to spread the universal message created. A cohesive approach will be devised to use social media in support of the website. Later in the process, iTunes, Soundcloud, and Amazon will be added to the process.
In the third question, I wanted to have a better understanding of the process of digital marketing and its segments. After
taking this course I have a greater understanding of SEO’s, keywords, content, color, consistency, font, analytics, bounce rate, focus groups, conversion, call-to-action, usability, simplicity, accessibility, search engine spiders, long-tails, e-commerce and an over-all understanding of each social media segment. I plan to use a traditional media channel as well.

Traditional Marketing Channel
Since I grew up in New York, I have seen how the traditional marketing strategies have worked for many individuals as well as businesses. Starting from the nice business card that represents one well, it’s a professional way to communicate with other businesses and individuals. In most instances, when you are working with top-notch company, you have to be prepared to do business in a professional way. They don’t expect you to take out your phone and exchange numbers. That is for an informal situation. A nice card is like a well-developed website in that it must look good and have the proper information one is looking for. If one

is attending a conference or meeting with top level individuals, part of your professional look is your card. As our products are released I’d like to promote them through radio and use print media to spread the word locally. For concerts and show cases T-shirts will be printed up to let people know we are here. Down the line, we hope to stream and e-market through the website.

Mastery Journal 5.1

Mastery Journal 5.1

Identifying the original goals

In the Mastery Journal, I identified three different goals, from the three phases, in the book “Mastery” (R. Greene, 2012). Greene states that there are three specific phases one goes through to achieve mastery. The three stages are as follows: The Apprenticeship Phase, The Creative Active Phase, and The Mastery Phase. This was the assignment in which I had to determine what were my goals for each of my classes to accomplish attaining my degree. For the Business Storytelling and Brand course, I determined at that time, that my phase 1 goal would be to learn how to use brand strategies. The phase 2 goal was to learn what my demographics are and how to reach them and finally phase 3 pertained to how to use storytelling strategies to help market my company.

Meeting and achieving the goals

The three goals I determined for myself are being met by the pertinent information that we learned through the coursework and video segments. I didn’t have an understanding of what a brand was before I began this course. I didn’t realize how important a brand is for a particular individual and or a company. Also, the amount of work that it takes to establish a proper brand is amazing and in some instances, can take years to establish. The image that one portrays for themselves or for their business is crucial to the over-all success of their products. It has to be one that individuals can remember and establish a relationship with. The brand has a trademark or logo which represents the company and what they stand for. A brand should describe the companies intentions or promise to its customers and should have a tagline that touches on what the company can do for the client/customer. This can be accomplished in many different ways however; the final result should be to establish a relationship with your customers within your demographics or parameters.

When it comes to demographics, I now have a much better idea of who my customers are and what I have to do to establish a relationship with them. For my particular company, the building of a website was wonderful because it gave me an understanding of the things that are important when building a website. The look, colors, consistency, and what information needs to be present to get my brand to the customer is exceptional. It also has to have a feel or story from page to page. This branches out to the social media circuits that I have establish as well. Linking into Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc. is a must in today’s world of marketing your products. For my musical products Amazon, Pandora, Spotify, and iTunes will also play a part in getting my products to the customer. A good marketing plan needs to be in place in order to be able to maximize all of the media outlets. This is where a good storytelling campaign will help with the process.

Storytelling is another essential part of establishing a business brand. It’s basically what brings like minded people together. We hear a story that we relate to and mentally establish a brain pattern with it. When we were children, everyone heard a scary story or a pleasant story about something that happened. Telling those stories left little pixels of information in our mind that we can retrieve at any moment. A good story will always resonate with an individual as long as they can relate to it. It’s the same when one is developing their business or individual brand. With a highly relatable story that touches an individual, one’s brainwaves will remember the story and hence remember the product that’s associated with that specific business. The company or product will immediately come into the persons mind when they hear the story, tagline, logo, jingle, accomplishments, etc. It’s an emotional attachment that is made by the association between the client and the company. These are things we want to remember because they make us feel good in one sense or another.

I am extremely excited to put the tools I learned from this program into play. They will be very important for me in helping establish the kind of company I want to own. Helping me brand myself as well as the company, will definitely allow us to receive the type of exposure we will need. It will help develop a concrete state of the art image of an up and coming company that cares about what it produces. Hopefully by good storytelling, we will be able to resonate with our clients and customers.

Mastery Journal Discussion

Project and Team Management Synopsis

This course is a comprehensive study of Project Management with an emphasis on developing a complete project management plan and budget. The main objectives are Defining The Project, Planning The Project, Executing The Plan and Project, Monitoring The Plan and Project, and Closing The Project. The written text is authored by Eric Verzuh and called “The Fast Forward MBA in Project Management”(2016). An emphasis is based on the development of managing a project from the initial stages to the end stages. Students are encouraged to role-play while taking the course as well as recognize and understand the different aspects of project managing. Learning to be a project leader along with conflict resolution techniques are also segments that are taught in this course.

The first week begins with an introduction and brainstorming assignment. Students are to brainstorm ideas from their particular field of entertainment. These idea’s will be used to define the Gantt Chart. The Gantt Chart is the template used to place all of the pertinent information needed to accomplish the project. This is where you’ll find the stakeholders, task to do, equipment to use, and materials to purchase, etc.

In week two, the discussion activity is about different types of methodologies pertaining to management. This will be used to plan the project for the course. Students are encouraged to choose no more than two methodologies to use through the process. The WBS or Work Breakdown Structure is introduced for the main activity in week two. Students work on the process of putting information on the Gantt template. The information required is as follows: tasks, activities, and resources, to begin the timeline associated with the Gantt Chart. This is the beginning stages of charting information for the project.

The week three discussion begins with the study of conflict resolution. The students research different conflict resolution techniques to add to their management styles. The purpose of this is to learn how to manage any conflicts when working with teams while working on a project. The students then create a conflict resolution policy of their own to follow when leading a team. Risk management is the main activity for this week. Students will learn to plan their budgets by taking into consideration the risks involved in a particular project. A risk management plan is created to add to the project management plan.

Week four is the culmination of all four weeks combined with added activities. It begins with a personality assessment for the discussion to let students understand, through the process of a short survey, what their personality traits are. Students take the Myers-Briggs and DiSC personality assessments and get to evaluate their traits. The surveys are there for the students to learn how to group certain individuals by their traits on a project. It is basically designed to help one manage a team by understanding their traits. The next activity is the team and quality management activity. Students will learn to put a team performance management plan together to help them manage their teams successfully by using feedback and keeping a pulse on the over-all changes to their projects. The students will also work on quality management to ensure that the project meets certain specifications. This teaches the students to be vigilant on maintaining an understanding of certain requirements that need to be met.

The final project is to create the project management plan using all the templates from the weeks before, to pitch the project. Students will learn to pitch their project to future companies by presenting to a live class. This will help them in their future endeavors in the entertainment business. To complete the course, this journal is created to post on the student’s Mastery Journal on WordPress. The purpose of this post is to demonstrate an understanding of the entire project and team management process by writing a synopsis or journal of the course.

In reflection, I feel that I learned a tremendous amount of information through this course. I particularly liked the hands on template work we did in generating the project management plan. The instructions were overwhelming at times and could be simplified however, the professor does a wonderful job of explaining the step-by-step process for each activity in his archive videos. The sections on conflict resolution and personality assessments were great for leading a team. I will definitely use some of the techniques I learned when managing a group of individuals. To pitch a project with conviction and understanding in front of an audience is not an easy thing to do however, a must if one wants to move forward with their projects. I believe that I will be better prepare with a better understanding of how to present a project with a solid project management plan. This will allow me to take advantage of the opportunities afforded to me in the future.
